CURRENT STATUS: Synonym of S. maculatus
HISTORICAL AUTHORS
Serrasalmo aesopus is known only from the type, 5 7/8 inches long, in the collection of the Philadelphia Academy. It may be prove to be synonymous with S. spilopleura. (Eigenmann 1915).
