Paratypes: AFY 51249 (2), 55051 (now 0), 65631 (5); MACLPI 65626 (33), 65638 (13); MBUCV-V-15846 [ex AFY 55051] (1). Type catalog: Provenzano et al. 1998:17. On first unnumbered page. •Synonym of Serrasalmus irritans Peters 1877 -- (Machado-Allison 2002:80, Jégu in Reis et al. 2003:191, Machado-Allison et al. 2009:128).
